NC State struck first in the fourth minute. Junior Lindsey Underwood crossed the ball to sophomore Annika Schmidt who was crashing the net. Schmidt headed the ball into the left corner of the net for her fourth goal of the season.
The Wolfpack struck again just three minutes later. Senior Erin Bushey slipped the ball to senior Lauren Bendahan who fed a long pass to Underwood. Underwood blasted the ball into the net past Panther keeper Courtney Noel.
Underwood and Schmidt would combine forces again for NC State's third goal of the afternoon. Senior Adrienne Barnes slid the ball to Underwood who was streaking down the right touchline. Underwood lofted the ball to Schmidt, who headed the ball into the upper left corner of the Panther goal.
Senior Jordan Allison would notch her fourth goal of the season in the 30th minute. Senior Colette Seville dribbled down the left side and passed the ball to senior Rachel Durr near the top of the box. Durr than slipped the ball to Allison who fired the ball into the left coner past the outstretched fingers of Noel.
Barnes tallied the final goal of the day, her third this season, in the 58th minute. Junior Katherine Warman collected a pass from Underwood in the penalty area. Warman slid the ball to a charging Barnes who fired on the High Point net. Noel dove for the ball, brushing it with her fingers but was unable to keep it out of the net.
Senior Gretchen Lear started the match and earned her third shutout of the season and 14th of her career. Also seeing playing time in the goal were freshmen Lauren Georges and Kim Selz.
"Obviously we're really happy. We wanted to put this team away in the first twenty minutes, and we accomplished that," said head coach Laura Kerrigan. "It was a good win and we were able to finish."
"This win puts us in the right frame of mind to start ACC play on Sunday," Kerrigan said.
NC State begins conference play against Wake Forest on Sunday, Sept. 29 at 1 p.m. at Method Road Soccer Stadium.
