Wolfpack Women's Soccer Team Seeks Win #5

NC State's women's soccer team looks for win #5 as it takes on the High Point Panthers on Tuesday, Sept. 24 at 4 p.m. at Method Road Soccer Stadium. NC State improved to 4-3 on the season with two wins and one loss last week.
NC State downed the Temple Owls 7-1 on Sunday, Sept. 15. Seniors Jordan Allison and Adrienne Barnes both notched two goals each as the Wolfpack offense dominated the match. Seniors Lauren Bendahan, Kelly Jordan and sophomore Annika Schmidt also tallied scores in the game. The Wolfpack put four scores on the board before the intermission. Senior Gretchen Lear started the match, notching one save. Freshman Kim Selz relieved Lear late in the game.
NC State defeated Liberty, 3-0 for its third straight victory on Tuesday, Sept. 17. Junior Lindsey Underwood scored the game-winning goal in the sixth minute. Junior Katherine Warman notched her third goal of the season in the 11th minute. Sophomore Annika Schmidt tallied the final goal in the 50th minute. Lear recorded her second shutout of the season, tallying one save. Freshman Lauren Georges came in late in the second half to relieve Lear and secured the win.
NC State suffered only their third loss of the season to the South Carolina Gamecocks, 1-0 on Saturday, Sept. 21. Despite outshooting the Gamecocks, 10-5, the Wolfpack was unable to find the net. South Carolina's goal came late in the second half.
High Point (2-3-1, 0-0) fell 4-0 to UNC Wilmington on Sunday, Sept. 15. UNC Wilmington notched the game winner in the 14th minute of the match. They added three insurance goals to secure the win in a rain soaked game.
High Point shutout Birmingham-Southern, 2-0 on Saturday, Sept. 21. Sophomore Lori Disalvo-Walsho notched the game-winner in the 34th minute. The Panthers got an insurance goal in the 84th minute from freshman Jen Evans to secure the win on the road. Freshman keeper Courtney Noel recorded her first career shutout.
This will be the third meeting between NC State and High Point. NC State leads the series, 2-0. The Wolfpack and the Panthers last met on Aug. 31, 2001 with the Wolfpack taking the win, 3-1.
