Men's Tennis Continues Play At UVA Invitational

Charlottesville, Va.- The freshman duo of Rehman Esmail and Will Shaw advanced to the finals of Flight B Doubles winning 8-6, 9-7 over Charleston Southern and American University after defeating a pair from Liberty 8-5 yesterday. R.J. Murray and John Davis, the lone returning players from last year's squad, advanced to the finals of the Flight A Doubles Consolation at the UVA Invitational. Murray and Davis defeated Navinkov and Qamer from Rice and then upended Rino and Shinozaki 9-8 to advance to the finals tomorrow to face and Gard from Iowa.
Esmail and Shaw will face Hatten and Rozek from the host Cavaliers tomorrow in the Flight B Doubles final. Chris Mills was paired with Pritt Pihl from Liberty and lost to Receway and Kennedy of Nebraska on Saturday.
In singles action, Mills won his first match in Flight C consolation with a 6-2, 6-7, 11-9 victory in three sets over Brian Friedman of Alabama before falling to Adel Abbas of Virginia Tech.
Shaw fought back all day against Santiago Falls of Charleston Southern before falling in three sets, 5-7, 6-4, 7-10 in the Flight A Singles Consolation.
Davis lost 5-7, 3-6 in Flight B Singles Consolation to Cesar Vargas of Nebraska.
The final matches will be played Sunday at UVA.
