Women's Tennis Opens Fall Season On Friday

Raleigh, N.C. - Hans Olsen's Wolfpack women's tennis team will take to the courts for the first time this fall on Friday morning as the hosts of the annual Fall Invitational to be held at the Wolfpack Tennis Complex on West Campus.
This year the tournament hosts a field of 12 teams from across the southeastern region. Other schools participating in the event are: Armstrong Atlantic State University, Charleston Southern, Charlotte, Davidson, East Carolina, Hampton, Radford, Stetson, UNC Wilmington, Western Carolina and Winthrop.
The Wolfpack returns a majority of its spring 2002 squad, and adds one newcomer to the roster. Myrna Bawono, Landis Strader and Loni Worsley look to provide senior leadership to a squad that has been full of youth in the past three seasons.
Bawono is listed in the A1 Flight Singles draw and will have a bye into the second round as the No. 4 seed in the tournament.
Worsley will be in action in the A2 Singles draw, as will junior teammate Jennifer Jassawalla. Jassawalla enters the field as the No. 1 seed of the draw and will have a bye into the second round.
Sophomore Danielle Staddelmann, who joined the team last spring, will play in the B1 Flight in the No. 8 position. Also in the B1 Flight is sophomore transfer Carmen Torres, the lone newcomer for the Wolfpack.
Strader will be in action Friday as the No. 7 player in the B2 Flight Singles. Sophomore Taylor Parker will also participate in the B2 draw.
In doubles action, Bawono will pair up with Kristin Lam. Lam, a redshirt sophomore, returns to the courts after sitting out a year with a knee injury. The duo is listed as the No. 4 seed in the Flight A doubles.
Worsley and Jassawalla will team up for the B1 doubles, as will Staddelmann and Torres in the B2 Flight.
Singles opening round action will take place on Friday, starting at 9:00 a.m., along with the first and second rounds of doubles play. Full results will be posted at www.gopack.com after each day of competition.
