Wolfpack Women's Soccer Set To Face Golden Flashes

Raleigh, N.C.--Laura Kerrigan's NC State women's soccer squad will kick off the 2002 campaign on Friday against the Kent State Golden Flashes at Method Road Soccer Stadium. Kickoff for the contest will be 4:00 p.m.
The Wolfpack will look to bounce back from a subpar 2001 season after a 10-7-3 record in 2000. The women will be led by 2000 All-ACC honoree Katherine Warman and Adrienne Barnes, who was named to the All-ACC squad in 2001. NC State will also feature senior goalkeeper Gretchen Lear, who has was named ACC Player of the Week as a sophomore. Lear attained the award after allowing just one goal to #11 Duke and shutting out #5 Clemson. NC State returns eight starters and 17 letterwinners in hopes of competing for an ACC crown.
Kent State is coming off a 6-11 campaign and finished 10th in the Mid-American Conference with a 5-7 mark. Led by head coach Rob Marinaro, the Flashes boast four seniors on a team that was picked 10th in the MAC preseason poll.
Kent State also features an established player in net. Senior Lindsey Mitchell is the Kent State goalkeeping leader in six categories: matches played (49), minutes (4039:44), shots faced (421), saves (307), victories (19) and shutouts (10.56). She has played over 1,000 minutes in net all three season and hopes to rebound from her career low .678 save percentage from 2001.
Junior Lauren Caminati is already the all-time Kent State goals scored leader. Caminati has led the team in goals and points in her first two seasons in a Golden Flash uniform. Caminati is the all-time leader with 15 goals and is also second in points (36) and third in assists (6).
Tickets are five dolllars for adults, three for senior citizens and free for kids, students and staff.
