Week 9: Melvin and Stinson Continute To Sparkle In WNBA

Chasity Melvin (Cleveland Rockers) and Andrea Stinson (Charlotte Sting) continued their outstanding performances this week when both players registered double-doubles during the week. Tynesha Lewis also enjoyed continued playing time with the Houston Comets, while Stinson's teammate Summer Erb is still a solid contributor off the bench for the Sting.
Melvin and the Rockers lost 73-52 to the New York Liberty on Monday to begin their week. In 27 minutes of action, Melvin went four-for-seven from the field and two-for-four from the line to score 10 points. She also grabbed four rebounds, assisted on three field goals and grabbed one steal.
Melvin played 41 minutes in Wednesday's 73-66 overtime loss to the Sting. The star forward once again scored 10 points, grabbed seven rebounds and dished out two assists.
Melvin and company won the return bout with Charlotte on Thursday 83-73 in the Queen City. Melvin notched yet another double double in the victory with 15 points and 10 rebounds on six-for-eight shooting in 34 minutes.
Cleveland dropped their final contest of the week, a 76-70 overtime decision to the Orlando Miracle. Melvin accounted for 16 points and six assists in the defeat.
Charlotte began their week on a sour note as they fell to the Indiana Fever 73-72 on Monday. Stinson had a rough game but did manage six points, six rebounds and three assists in 32 minutes. Erb pitched in eight points and four rebounds in 14 minutes, including a for-for-five mark from the charity stripe.
Stinson registered her double-double in Wednesday's game with the Rockers, tallying 17 points and 12 rebounds on 7-12 shooting in 37 minutes. The guard also had four assists and four steals in the victory. Erb did not score but did grab two rebounds and swipe two Cleveland passes in 11 minutes.
Stinson continued her consistent play with 14 points and six assists in 32 minutes on Thursday. Erb contributed three points in seven minutes of action.
In Detroit's 74-66 win over Charlotte on Saturday, Stinson scored 17 points and grabbed five boards to go with four assists, four steals and two blocks in 33 minutes. Erb scored two points and snared three rebounds in 12 minutes.
Tynesha Lewis scored hit the only field goal attempt she took and hit a pair of free throws for four points in seven minutes in Houston's 66-54 demolition of Seattle on Tuesday. Lewis also recorded one steal in three minutes in Houston's 69-60 win over Miami on Thursday.
Charlotte's first game of the new wee will be on Thursday when they head to Orlando to take on the Miracle at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, the Sting will head to Indiana to play the Fever at 8:00 p.m. before returning to Charlotte for the final game of the week against the New York Liberty at 6:00 p.m.
Cleveland will also begin their week on Thursday with a road date with the Detroit Shock at 7:30 p.m. The two teams will meet again on Saturday in Cleveland for a return match at 7:00 p.m.
Houston starts their week on Tuesday with a home date at 8:30 against the Portland Fire. Houston then hosts Orlando at 8:30 on Saturday to round out their week of action.
