Former NC State soccer star Charmaine Hooper scored the only goal of the game for the Atlanta Beat in a 1-0 victory over the Carolina Courage in Atlanta on Saturday.
The goal, Hooper's ninth of the season, came in the 68th minute of the contest on assists from Staci Burt and Lisa Krzykowski.
Defender Krzykowski started the play, sending the ball into the box. Burt knocked it down and touch-passed it to Hooper, who took a dribble to her right and fired the ball into the top right corner. The goal marked the third time in as many games that Burt has assisted a Hooper goal.
"She makes things happen and that's good for our team," said Hooper of Burt. "I think when our team sees her come off the bench and work so hard and help us out like that it gives us a big boost."
The win moved Atlanta to 9-7-1 (28 points), while Carolina fell to 10-3-3 (33 points). The Beat will head to San Diego for a match on Wednesday.
