With the first week of the season under their belts, NC State's four representatives in the WNBA have performed admirably out of the blocks for their respective squads.
Tynesha Lewis, the only man or woman to record a triple-double in NC State history, played three games this week for the Houston Comets, helping the squad to a 2-1 record. After suffering a concussion in the preseason, Lewis did not start any of the three games and only recorded seven minutes in Monday's season-opening loss to the Los Angeles Sparks (68-55).
Lewis bounced back, however, in Houston's next two contests. She scored 12 points in 19 minutes on Wednesday against the Phoenix Mercury, to go with 5-6 shooting (2-2 3-pt. FGs), one rebound and one steal in Houston's 61-56 victory.
In Saturday's 69-65 win over the Cleveland Rockers, Lewis knocked down three points in 16 minutes and recorded three rebounds.
Chasity Melvin (1995-98), another Wolfpack Kodak All-American, also played 38 minutes for Cleveland in the game, posting nine points and six rebounds on 3-8 shooting from the floor.
Former Wolfpack All-Americans Andrea Stinson and Summer Erb helped the Charlotte Sting surge past Los Angeles on Monday, in overtime, 94-87.
Stinson started the game, but was limited to just 10 minutes after spraining her left ankle in the first half of the contest. She finished the game with four points, one rebound and one assist. Stinson participated in a shootaround this morning in preparation for Sting's game tonight against Lewis and the Comets. The Sting said that she should be available for action tonight.
Erb, on the other hand, started and played 26 minutes and totaled six points on 3-5 shooting and four rebounds. The 6'6 center also tallied two steals before fouling out late in the game.
After its battle in Charlotte tonight, Houston will go on the road for a game on Wednesday against the Indiana Fever at 7:00 p.m. before it returns home to face the Sacramento Monarchs at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday. That game will be televised on ESPN2.
Charlotte begins a four-game road trip after tonight's game with a game at Seattle against the Storm on Thursday at 10:00 p.m. before continuing onto Utah for a game against the Starzz (Saturday, 9:00 p.m.) and Phoenix (Sunday, 9:00 p.m.).
Cleveland plays host to the Detroit Shock at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday and then travels to Orlando for a game against the Miracle on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
