Raleigh, N.C.--Justin Walters, a junior from Johannesburg, South Africa, was named a PING All-American by the Golf Coaches Assocation of America (GCAA) on Monday. The honor came on the heels of his performance at the NCAA Championships (T-6th) last weekend where he led the Wolfpack to a sixth overall team finish at the tournament. The finish is the highest ever for the program, topping the previous mark of eighth in 1982 and 1995.
His four-day total of 280 was the second lowest four-day tournament total ever at NC State behind three-time Wolfpack All-American Tim Clark's 276 in 1998. Walters' sixth-place finish also ranks second all-time behind Clark's T-5th performance in 1996.
Walters won The Nelson Invitational on Oct. 28th and Chris Schenkel/EZ Go Invitational on Mar. 24th.
Senior Garth Mulroy (Umkomass, South Africa) also earned honorable mention honors for NC State. He shot a blistering four-under-par 67 in the final round to finish in 59th after starting the final round knotted in 116th place. His 71-74-78-67=290 (+6) ranks eighth all-time at NC State.
