Carl Pettersson fired a first round 67 to grab a share of second place at the Murphy's Irish Open in Cork, Ireland on Thursday. The two-time All-American competed at NC State in 1999 and 2000 and stands near the top in the NC State record books. Pettersson ranks second in lowest single season stroke average with his 71.74 average in 2000. He also holds third place in career stroke average at 72.3. Pettersson has found success on the PGA European Tour, winning the Portuguese Open in April.
Tim Clark fired a rain-delayed 71 to stand at even par after one day at the Fed-Ex St. Jude Classic in Memphis, Tenn. The native of South Africa remains at even-par after nine holes in the second round. Clark won the Bell's South African Open in January on the European Tour and currently hold a PGA Tour card.
Clark was a three-time All-American at NC State and one of the greatest golfers in the history of the program and the ACC. He was a two-time NCAA East Regional Individual Champion (1996 and 1997) and the1997 ACC Player of the Year. Clark was also tabbed the 1996 CGAA National Freshman of the Year.
