Columbus, Ohio- Halfway finished with the opening round on Wednesday at the 2002 NCAA Men's Golf Championship, NC State was in a familiar position on the leaderboard. Holding on to a tie for seventh place with half of the competing thirty teams still on the course, the Wolfpack was playing strong with all five golfers shooting +1 or better. However, heavy rains and lightning suspended play until Thursday morning and NC State slipped seven spots into a tie for 14th. Second round action will tee off 90 minutes later than originally slated.
Justin Walters remained steady after the rain delay, firing a one-under-par 70 in first round action, tying for 21st.
Garth Mulroy shot an even par 71 to hold steady in 38th place. Mulroy was at one-under-par when play was suspended, but dropped only one stroke after resuming play this morning.
Fernando Mechereffe tied for 62nd with a one-over-par 72. He dropped only one stroke after play resumed.
Jason Moon finished fourth for the Wolfpack in the first round with a two-over-par 73 and a share of 88th.
