Men's Golf Seventh After Second Round

Columbus, OH- Coach Sykes rallied his troops in the second round after the Wolfpack had to complete Wednesday's opening round early Thursday morning due to inclement weather. After finishing the first round in 14th, NC State, lead by junior standout Justin Walters, jumped into seventh at the halfway point in the 2002 NCAA Men's Golf National Championship. NC State has a two-day total of 567 after a second round 281 (-3) pushed Sykes' team towards the head of the Pack.
Justin Walters fired a four-under-par 67 and is tied for fourth place with a two-day total of 137 (-5). The 67 was the second lowest score of the day. Walters jumped from 20th to fourth after his second round performance. He birdied 16, 17, and 18 to head to the clubhouse with a total of five birdies on the afternoon.
Fernando Mechereffe is knotted in 36th after an even-par 70 lowers his two-day total to 142, even par after two rounds.
Jason Moon improved from 88th to share 53rd after an even par 71 lowered his two-day total to 144 (+2).
Garth Mulroy is knotted at 75th after a second round 74. Mulroy had birdied the seventh and 12th holes before five straight bogies on the back nine. His two-day 145 is three-over-par.
Rodney Thomas jumped two spots to a share of 119th after a two-over-par 73 pushed his two-day total to 148 (+6).
