Columbus, OH- Only 15 of the 30 competing teams finished the first round at the 2002 NCAA Men's Golf Championship before pouring rain and lightning took over the Scarlet Course near Ohio State University's campus. NC State started on the back nine at 1:30pm EST and managed to complete only eight to ten of the 18 first round holes. The Wolfpack stands at -1 and is eight strokes off of leader Illinois. Play will resume tomorrow morning at 7am. The NCAA may decide to make a cut after 36 holes to insure that all four rounds are played between now and June 1st.
Junior Justin Walters finished eight holes before heading to the clubhouse at one-under-par. He bogeyed the tenth hole before birdies on 11 and on the par five 12. He is tied for 21st early on.
Senior Garth Mulroy is also knotted at -1 after a birdie on 16. He finished the first eight holes bogie free.
