NC State's nationally ranked men's golf team will be looking to nail down a spot in the NCAA Championships this week when it competes in the NCAA Central Regional in Little Rock, Arkansas. First round play at the Pleasant Valley Country Club begins Thursday morning. The Wolfpack is the No. 2 seed in the regional, which will play host to 27 teams. The top 10 teams from each regional will advance to the championship finals to be held at the Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio May 29-June1.
Led by All-ACC performers Justin Walters and Garth Mulroy, the Pack posted a strong second place finish at the ACC Championships last month. Walters' stroke average of 71.33 paced NC State this season. Mulroy wasn't far behind, averaging 71.95 strokes per round.
In the most recent Collegiate Golf Coaches Poll, the Wolfpack is ranked 10th in the nation. NC State is one of four ACC teams ranked in the top 10. Georgia Tech is No.1, followed by Clemson and Wake Forest, which were tied for second with 369 points apiece.
This marks the 26th time in 30 years that four-time ACC Coach of the Year Richard Sykes has guided NC State to postseason play.
