
Wolfpack Tennis Falls Short Against Blue Devils, 6-1

Raleigh, N.C.--The NC State men's tennis squad was defeated Wednesday afternoon by the 13th-ranked Duke Blue Devils 6-1 at the Wolfpack Tennis Center. Duke improved to 10-9 overall and 5-0 in the ACC with the victory, while the Wolfpack fell to 4-15 overall and 0-4 in the ACC.
R.J. Murray defeated Jason Zimmerman of Duke 7-5, 6-2 at No. 3 singles to register the only Wolfpack point on the afternoon. Zimmerman entered the match ranked 123rd in the nation.
The Wolfpack played very tough against Duke, sending the No. 4 and No. 6 matches into three sets before surrendering a point to the Devils in both contests.
Bryce McGrory fought back valiantly against Joel Spicher, winning the second set 7-5 before succumbing to Spicher 6-1 in the final set. Jon Davis cruised through the first set against Alex Bose of Duke 6-2, but found the going rough in the second and third sets, losing 4-6 and 5-7 down the stretch.
This was the third consecutive match without Wolfpack sophomores Michael Carducci and Reinaldo Valor. Both have been dismissed from the team for a violation of team rules and policies.
The Wolfpack will be on the road for its next match at Virginia on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
