NC State Baseball Hammers Tribe, 13-5

RALEIGH, N.C. - Brian Wright and Marc Maynor drove in three runs each, and Mike Prochaska worked 6 1/3 solid innings Tuesday as NC State secured its 10th consecutive victory, downing William & Mary 13-5 at Doak Field. The winning streak is NC State's longest since a 14-game streak in 1999. The Wolfpack improved to 12-3 overall with the victory, while William and Mary fell to 9-5.
Prochaska (2-0) allowed seven hits and three earned runs while walking two and striking out three. Starter Whitt Farr (1-3) took the loss for the Tribe, allowing seven runs on 10 hits in six innings. He walked three and struck out none.
The Wolfpack struck first with a run in the bottom of the first. With one out, shortstop Chad Orvella tripled to right field, his first triple of the seaon, and scored on Wright's long sacrifice fly to put the Wolfpack up 1-0.
Following walks by Maynor and Orvella in the third, Wright got anther RBI when he doubled just over the head of left fielder Rick Stephenson, plating Maynor to make the score 2-0.
After Matt Kirby scored on a Prochaska wild pitch in the top of the fifth, the Wolfpack got one back in the bottom of the inning when Adam Hargrave led off and was hit by a pitch, was sacrificed to second and scored on Dutton's single to right-center to make it 3-1.
NC State scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth, beginning with Prochaska's triple to right field. Matt Butler followed with a double to drive in Prochaska with the Wolfpack's fourth run of the game. Maynor followed with an RBI double of his own, and Dutton slapped a single to center to score Maynor, making the score 6-1. Wright scored Dutton with the final run of the inning with on an infield single to put NC State up by six runs after six innings.
William & Mary battled back with two runs in the top of the seventh on Michael Brown's two-run double down the left field line, drawing the Tribe to within four runs at 7-3.
NC State blew the game open in the bottom half of the seventh with six runs off William & Mary relief pitcher Chris Page. After Butler walked and pinch-hitter Colt Morton was hit by a pitch, Hargrave singled in Butler for the first tally of the inning. Maynor followed with a chop single up the middle over the drawn-in infield, scoring Morton and Hargrave. Orvella then ripped the Wolfpack's third triple of the game, a drive to right center, driving in Maynor and Dutton to make the score 12-3. Wright notched NC State's final run of the game with an RBI-groundout, scoring Orvella from third.
William & Mary put across two more runs in the top of the eighth on a double by Rhymes and an RBI-groundout by Lentz.
Orvella and Dutton had two RBIs for the Wolfpack, while Brown led William & Mary, going 2-for-5 at the plate with two RBIs.
The Wolfpack will next see action on Friday in the first game of a three-game homestand against the Richmond Spiders. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
