Men's Golf Ninth After Two Rounds

Statesboro, GA- Junior Justin Walters was the overall leader after the first round with a four-under-par 68 at the Schenkel E-Z-Go Invitational to pace the Wolfpack to tenth after the opening round. Walters fired a 72 in the second round to stand at two-under-par going into tomorrow's final round. The Wolfpack stand ninth in the 15 team field after the second round.
The first round 68 for Walters tied his lowest round on the year and also tied for the third lowest round for the Wolfpack in 2001-2002. It was his fourth round scored in the 60's on the season which is second only to Jason Moon's five. Walters had six birdies and two bogies in the first round and followed that up with three birdies in the second round. Walters has been a strong golfer for the Wolfpack this year finishing in the top twenty twice and winning the Nelson Invitational in October. Moon, the senior from New South Wales, Australia fired back-to-back rounds of 73 to place in a tie for 25th.
Senior leader Garth Mulroy fired his team-leading 10th round-under-par in the second round with a one-under-par 71. He fired a 78 in the first round and currently is tied for 48th. Freshman Rodney Thomas is also knotted at 48th after firing rounds of 76 and 73 in the first and second rounds respectively.
Sophomore Fernando Mechereffe placed tied with two other golfers at 68 after a second round 78. He carded a 77 in the first round.
The third and final round tees off tomorrow morning at the Forest Heights Country Club.
