NC State Baseball Hammers St. Joseph's, 15-4

RALEIGH, N.C. - Brian Wright went 4-for-4 and drove in four runs, and NC State pounded out 22 hits and routed St. Joseph's 15-4 Friday in college baseball action at Doak Field.
The win lifted the Wolfpack to 14-5 on the season while the Hawks fell to 1-12-1. NC State starter Michael Rogers allowed two runs, one of them unearned, on six hits in five innings to record the win and improve to 3-2. He walked two and struck out four. Hawks starter Erik Holman took the loss after allowing 11 runs on 15 hits in 5 2/3 innings. He walked one and struck out two.
The Hawks got the scoring started with an unearned run off Rogers in the top of the first inning. Jason Tarewicz led off with a double to right field, and Pace Bradshaw singled to left, putting runners on the corners with none out. After Rogers struck out Bill McCollum for the first out of the inning, Bradshaw stole second. Tarewicz scored and Bradshaw went to second when Rogers attempted a pickoff at second base and threw the ball into center field for an error.
NC State dropped an eight spot on St. Joesph's in the bottom of the third inning. Adam Hargrave, who went 3-for-4, got the Wolfpack started with a one-out single to right-center, and Marc Maynor walked. The runners pulled a double steal, and Chad Orvella, who went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, tied the score at 1-1 with an infield single. Orvella stole second, and Wright belted a two-run triple to right. Matt Butler's sacrifice fly drove in Wright to make it 4-1.
David Hicks singled through the right side of the infield and took second on Colt Morton's single to right. Tim Coffield doubled down the line in right to drive in one run, and Sammy Esposito singled to drive in Coffield and Morton, upping the lead to 7-1. Esposito went to second on a throwing error on the play, and scored on Hargrave's single up the middle, giving the Wolfpack an 8-1 lead.
Justin Godusky led off the top of the fourth for St. Joseph's with a long home run to left field, but the Pack answered with a run in the bottom half of the inning. Orvella led off and was hit by a pitch, stole second and scored on Wright's double to left-center, making it 9-2, Wolfpack, after four innings.
Orvella led off the bottom of the sixth with an infield single and Wright singled to left. With two outs, Justin Riley blooped a single to right field, driving in both runners to make it 11-2.
Kevin Dougher led off the top of the seventh for the Hawks and doubled down the left-field line. Jim Kelly cut the lead to 11-3 with an RBI double to left, and Bradshaw smoked a double to the corner in right to drive in Kelly and make it 11-4.
The Wolfpack came back with three more in the bottom of the seventh. Hargrave led off and wound up on second when both the shortstop and left fielder made errors on the play. Maynor beat out an infield single, with pinch-runner Dustin Murphy holding at second. The runners moved up to second and third on a passed ball, and scored on Orvella's double to left. Wright followed with a single to right to score Orvella and give NC State a 14-4 lead.
Murphy singled with one out in the bottom of the eighth, and Coyle and Wright walked to load the bases. Dutton's infield single drove in Murphy to up the margin to 15-4.
Notes: The Wolfpack and Hawks will resume the three-game series on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. Game time for Sunday's series finale has been changed from 12:30 p.m. to noon.
