RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State slaughtered a Princeton (1-3) team that came to Raleigh ranked No. 66 by the Omni Hotels Intercollegiate Tennis Association by a 7-0 margin on the courts of the Wolfpack Tennis Complex Sunday afternoon. The Pack defeated the Tigers in straight sets, including a win by Katrina Gildemeister over Kavitha Krishnamurthy who is currently ranked No. 50 in singles competition. With the win, the Pack improves to 4-4.
NC State took the early doubles point with wins in all three matches. The senior tandem of Katrina Gildemeister and Kristen Nicholls sent a message to the Tigers early, pounding Princeton's Krishnamurthy and Kristi Watson in the No. 1 doubles match, 8-1. Jennifer Jassawalla and Myrna Bawono pulled out a win over Stephanie Berg and Alex Kobishyn, while juniors Loni Worsley and Landis Strader defeated Mateya McCoy and Jackie Arcario.
In singles play, NC State took wins in all six matches. Each match was won in straight sets, except for the No. 4 match between NC State's Loni Worsley and Jackie Arcario. The match was tied at 5-5 when Arcario went down with an injury and retired from the match.
Gildemeister's play against ranked Krishnamurthy was exceptional. Gildemeister has provided a solid effort at No. 1 all season, but played with vigor in her 6-2, 6-3 win. Bawono notched a win in her first appearance of the year at the No. 2 spot for the Wolfpack. Bawono scored a point for the Pack with sets of 6-3, 6-0. Nicholls added another by hammering Arcario 6-2, 6-0. Houston sophomore Jennifer Jassawalla got out early in the No. 5 spot and bageled McCoy in the second set for a 6-2, 6-0 victory. Freshman Danielle Staddelmann has proved to be a nice addition to the line-up since joining the team in the spring. Staddelmann finished the Tigers off with a win over Carlin McCoy in the No. 6 singles match.
NC State will travel east on I-40 to meet the Saehawks of UNC-Wilmington next Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
