RALEIGH, N.C. - Dave Miller and Pierre Pryor got back-to-back pins at 157 and 165 pounds, and NC State finished with three pins, four major decisions and a forfeit to easily defeat UNC-Greensboro 43-3 in college wrestling Wednesday night at Reynolds Coliseum. The Wolfpack, which won its third dual match in a row, improved to 9-7 on the season. The Spartans dropped to 3-8 with the loss.
George Cintron (11-6) got the Wolfpack off to a quick start with a 15-5 major decision over Tony Stewart (3-13) at 125 pounds. Cintron's victory was his eighth in a row and his ninth in his last 10 matches. UNCG pulled to within a point in the team scoring at 4-3 when Wes Gibson (2-5) edged Adam Cox (0-1) at 133 pounds by a 6-5 decision.
NC State dominated from there. Ryan McCallum (7-10) took a 12-7 decision over David Johnson (8-10) at 141, and Jake Giamoni (14-11) won a 15-7 major decision over Keith Ritter (7-16) at 149 to make it 11-3. Miller (8-7) then pinned Nate Parmenter (6-11) at 1:58 in the 157 match, and Pryor (19-6) flattened Brian Mullaney (4-7) at 4:29 in the 165-pound bout, which gave the Wolfpack a commanding 23-3 lead in the team scoring. Pryor's pin was the 23rd of his career, which ranks fifth in school history, while the win was his 82nd, which ranks ninth in school annals.
Dustin Kawa (18-6) made it 27-3 in the team scoring with an 11-2 major decision over Ron Williams (11-11) at 174. The win was Kawa's career-best 10th in a row. Jon Godwin (9-13) then took a 13-4 major decision over Terry Garbis at 184 to make it 31-3, and Jason Gore (10-13) pinned Jeremy Edwards in 2:44 at 197 to extend the lead to 37-3. NC State heavyweight Ngozi Collins capped the evening with a forfeit victory, giving the Pack its first 40-point victory of the 2002 season.
