Wolfpack Women Set To Dance With Devils

Tonight's Matchup: Tonight's ACC showdown pits the NC State Wolfpack (12-12, 6-7) against the #5 Duke Blue Devils (21-3, 13-0). NC State is currently sixth in the ACC, while Duke has already clinched the ACC regular season title.
The Opponent: Sophomore Iciss Tillis collected 22 points in 21 minutes last Sunday to lead Duke to a 77-69 victory over the Clemson Tigers. Monique Currie added 15 points for Duke (21-3, 13-0), which won its fourth ACC title in five years. Alana Beard added 12 points and Michele Matyasovsky had 10.
The Series: NC State holds a 38-18 edge in the all-time series with Duke , however the Blue Devils have eight of the last ten matchups between the two teams, including the last five in Cameron Indoor Stadium. Last season, the teams split their regular season meetings before Duke defeated NC State in the ACC Championship 57-45.

The Coaches: Head Coach Kay Yow is in her 27th season on the Wolfpack bench and owns a 566-245 (.698) mark at NC State and a 623-264 (.702) overall record. She ranks fifth among active coaches for all-time wins and was inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in June 2000. Yow has been named a finalist for the Naismith Coach of the Year Award for the previous two seasons.
Gail Goestenkors is 227-81 (.737) in ten seasons at Duke University. Goestenkors is 14-9 in her 23 meetings with the Wolfpack.
Last Time Out: NC State was defeated 73-68 by the then-ranked #7 Blue Devils on the strength of 23 points by Alana Beard and 18 by Iciss Tillis. The Wolfpack held Beard to just two points in the second half, but surrendered 16 to Tillis in the second stanza. Kaayla Chones tallied 17 points and 8 rebounds for the Wolfpack in the loss.
Next Up: NC State will go on the road Thursday to Maryland for their final game against the Maryland Terrapins in Cole Field House at 7:30 p.m. Duke will stay at home on Thursday to face the Florida State Seminoles at 7:00 p.m.
