Raleigh, N.C. (February 1, 2002) - Twenty-seven Triangle area nonprofit organizations involved in the promotion of women's health will participate in the second annual "Season of Women's Health" information fair on Sunday, Feb. 10 at Reynolds Coliseum.
The free women's health fair will be held on the concourse level of Reynolds Coliseum when the Wolfpack Women take on the Lady Tarheels of UNC at 2 p.m. One hour before the game and at halftime, basketball fans will get the chance to talk with the community organizations about healthy lifestyles and good health habits for women. In addition, free printed materials will be available for taking home and sharing with family and friends.
The Wolfpack Women teamed up with GlaxoSmithKline for the second year to offer the program. Last year's fair drew 20 organizations, and more than 8,000 fans attended the game.
"We are extremely pleased that these 27 community organizations are showing their commitment to women's health by participating in the fair," said NC State's Women's Basketball Coach Kay Yow. "Many of these organizations participated last year and found that the fans were very receptive to the message that women must make their own health a priority. Word spread and we have seven more organizations than we did last year."
The organizations planning to participate are Be Active North Carolina Inc., N.C. Council for Women/Domestic Violence Commission, N.C. Coalition Against Sexual Assault, Durham Crisis Response Center/Domestic and Sexual Violence Services, Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Coalition of N.C. (Raleigh and Chapel Hill offices), National Alliance for the Mentally Ill, Childbirth Center of Raleigh Community Hospital, NCSU Student Health.
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina, Alice Aycock Poe Center for Health Education, Women's Health Services and the Heart Center of Duke University Health System, Komen Foundation, Planned Parenthood of the Capital and Coast, American Diabetes Association, YWCA of Wake County, Prevent Child Abuse North Carolina, Women's Pavilion and Birthplace of Wake Medical Center, Women's Center of Wake County,
