Wolfpack junior quarterback Philip Rivers has been named a semifinalist for the 2002 Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award. The award is presented annually to the nation's best college quarterback. The field will be narrowed to three finalists on December 2 and the winner will be announced on December 12 at the Home Depot College Football Awards Show.
Rivers, who has led the nation in passing efficiency for much of the season, has already set the NC State career records for pass completions (670), passing efficiency (135.7) and 300-yard passing games (nine). He needs one TD pass to break the school record in that category, as his tally of 59 is currently tied with Jamie Barnette. Rivers ranks second in school history and seventh in ACC history with 8,358 career passing yards.
