Wolfpack Hopes To Surge In Second Round

Chapel Hill, N.C. - The NC State women's golf team found itself in unfamiliar territory at the conclusion of the first round of The Franklin Street Trust Tar Heel Invitational Friday afternoon. The No. 25 Wolfpack finished the day in 14th out of the 15-team field. Erica Wein fired a two-over par score of 74 Friday afternoon, and posted NC State's best round of the day.

Wein and the rest of the Wolfpack opened play on the back nine. She posted a 37 on the backside before finishing at 74. Courtney Pomeranz shot well on the front nine holes, carding a second half score of 36 to finish at six-over (78) on the afternoon. Briana Vega fired a round of 79, while Sarah Bonner shot her first round of the season over 80, finishing with an 81. Colby Cobb shot a round of 87. Individual participant Leslie Stubblefield finished at 83.

Duke leads with a team score of just two-over par, and boasts the tournaments individual leader on its roster, Liz Janangelo. A freshman, Janangelo is five-under par.

The Franklin Street Trust Tar Heel Invitational continues through Sunday and is being played at Finley Golf Course, a par 72, 6,181-yard layout. Tee times begin at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday for the Wolfpack. There is no admission and the public is invited to attend.
