Knoxville, Tenn. - NC State advanced two singles players in the main draw of competition in Friday's St. Mary's Fall Classic hosted by the Tennessee Lady Vols in Knoxville, Tenn. Danielle Staddelmann and Carmen Torres won their matches in flight four and five competition, respectively.
Staddelmann advances to the second round by defeating fellow ACC player, Lyndsey Shosho of Georgia Tech. Torres dominated Mississippi State's Tumi Uedo, allowing only two points in two sets to win, 6-1, 6-1. Torres will face Maryland's Jennifer Dent at 9:30am on Saturday.

Tennessee's Melisa Schaub downed Loni Worsley, 6-3, 6-3 in flight three play. Worsley will play Reitz of Purdue at 8:00am.
Two NC State players entered the flight six bracket. Taylor Parker, who lost to Melinda Morrow of Tennessee will advance to the consolation finals on Sunday by default. Her scheduled opponent went down with an injury and will not be able to play Saturday's match. Landis Strader went down in three sets after dominating Tennessee's Megan Keer in the first. Strader finally went down in the third with a score of 1-6, 7-6(1), 6-2. She will face another Lady Vol, Claudia Farace, at 8:00am.
In doubles play, Staddelmann and Jassawalla exited as winners in a tight 9-7 decision with a pair from Georgia Tech, Shosho/Nieto. The pair was downed in the semifinals by Iqbal/Woods, and will play in the consolation match for third place on Sunday versus Morris/Scenk from Georgia Tech.
Torres and Worsley were successful in their first round of play in the flight three doubles bracket, downing Cohn/Farace from host Tennessee, 8-5. Also falling short in the semifinals, they will face the Maryland tandem of Jedrezejak/Fusea on Sunday.
Strader and Parker lost their first match of the day, but prevailed in the consolation match and will advance to play on Sunday by defeating Morrow/Kerr 8-3.
