NC State Golf Ready For Eighth Annual State Cup

Richard Sykes and Page Marsh, head coaches of the men's and women's golf programs and NC State, respectively, will host the eighth annual State Cup on November 1st and 2nd. The event is an effort to eventually fund all of the golf scholarships at NC State as an endowment. The 2002 State Cup will take place at the Tobacco Road Golf Club in Sanford, N.C and will feature teams that will consist of one celebrity golfer, usually a former or current golfer from NC State. This year, an auction to help raise money for the golf programs is planned for next weekend.
The auction will be setup as follows:
* Items will be displayed for viewing during the golf registration on November 1st.
* Each auction item will have a sign-up sheet where bidders can write their names and bids in a progressive and competitive format.
* Each auction item's sign-up sheet will have a minimum or starting bid identified to start bidding.
* Bids will begin during the golf registration and will end at the designation of the auctioneer during the post-golf tournament reception.
* Payment for all auction items will be required on November 1st, 2002.
* Items may be purchased with cash, check, or credit card.

1. April 11th, 1983 issue of Sports illustrated (The NC State Men's Basketball Championship issue). Cover is signed by Sidney Lowe, Thurl Bailey, and Dereck Whittenburg. Framed under glass.
2. November 4th, 1973 issue of Sports Illustrated previewing the 1974 season featuring David Thompson. Signed by Thompson and features a brass plate denoting his "National Player of the Year" and "Basketball Hall of Fame" achievements. Framed and under glass.
3. April 1974 issue of Sports Illustrated after NC State won the 1974 National Championship. Signed magazine cover by Thompson and Tommy Burleson and is framed under glass.
4. Four rounds of golf and cart at the Arnold Palmer designed Carolina Golf Club in Pinehurst, NC.
5. Four rounds of golf and cart at Woodlake Golf and Country Club in Vass, NC. A Ellis Maples design.
