Men's Golf Catapults Into Fourth At The Nelson Invitational

Stanford, CA - NC State exploded on the links of the Stanford Golf Course on Saturday in the second round of the Nelson Invitational. As a team, the Wolfpack paced the field with a 279, shooting its way from 13th into fourth. Wolfpack senior Justin Walters, the individual medalist at the 2001 Nelson Invitational, fired the low round on day two with a 66 to move into second place, one-stroke off the lead. Senior teammate Jason Moon carded a 69 to push his way into a tie for 13th heading into the final round. The top three individuals are from the ACC with Georgia Tech's Nicholas Thompson first, and Duke's Leif Olson tied with Walters in second.
Thomas Strange came up big on the second day with and even par 71 to jump into a tie for 39th. Teammate Rodney Thomas is also tied for 39th, after a second round 73 moved the sophomore from Lexington, NC to five-over-par on the tournament. Kyle Tucker fired a 73 as the Wolfpack crept within seven strokes of overall leader Georgia Tech.
The final round of The Nelson Invitational tees off tomorrow morning at 8am in Stanford, CA. The field features seven of the top-50 teams nationally. The Wolfpack is ahead of five of the seven teams after two rounds.
