Palo Alto, CA - Justin Walters was a relatively unknown commodity heading into the 2001-02 season for the Wolfpack as a junior college transfer from Huntingdon (Ala) College. Sure, he had just wrapped up a national title on the NAIA Level, but he would now be competing with the best college golfers in the ACC and nationally. Walters proved any naysayers wrong quickly in his collegiate career as he won the Nelson Invitational last year by firing a 206, tied for the third lowest tournament total in school history. Walter would go on to win another individual title, garner All-American and All-ACC honors, and help the Wolfpack to a sixth place finish in the NCAA Championship.
Walters will look to lead NC State to the team title as well as adding another trophy to his own shelf. After three tournaments this season, Walters has placed in the top 20 in the first two, narrowly missing a third with a 21st place showing at the Ping Preview.
Walters will be joined by fellow senior Jason Moon in leading the Wolfpack. The tournament tees off tomorrow in Stanford, CA at 8am.
Some of the nation's finest golf team will be competing in the event, including ACC foes Georgia Tech and Duke, as well as national powers Stanford, Kansas, Toledo, Colorado, Idaho, Miami (Ohio), Texas Tech, Oregon St., Colorado St., Florida Southern, Missouri, Hawaii-Hilo, Northwestern, Washington, and Notre Dame.
