Raleigh, N.C. - NC State Coach Kay Yow has announced the addition of Alvine Mendeng to the Wolfpack program. Mendeng, a 6-1 forward, is transferring from the University of Kentucky. A year ago, Mendeng was the only player on the Kentucky squad to start all 27 games. She averaged 6.4 points and 4.7 rebounds for the Wildcats. As a freshman, she recorded career highs of 18 points, eight rebounds, four assists, four steals and three blocked shots.
"We are very happy to have Alvine join the Wolfpack Women," commented NC State Coach Kay Yow. "She brings athleticism, experience and a competitive spirit to our team."
A native of Cameroon, Africa, Mendeng came to the United States four years ago on an academic scholarship to Dayton (OH) Christian Academy. Her senior season at Dayton, she averaged 16.8 points, 10.8 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game and was named the Division II District 15 Player of the Year. Mendeng was also named one of the top 25 seniors in the country by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association.
Mendeng has already enrolled at NC State and will be eligible to compete for the Wolfpack in December 2002.
