Charlotte, N.C.--The WNBA's Charlotte Sting probably think anything is possible right now. After all, this is a team that somehow made the playoffs after getting off to a near-disastrous 1-10 start in the regular season.
Led by former NC State star Andrea Stinson, the Sting continued its improbable late season turnaround on Thursday night by tripping up Cleveland in a first round playoff game, 53-46. With the win, Charlotte grabbed a 1-0 lead in the best of three playoff series.
As usual, the versatile Stinson spearheaded Charlotte's attack with 16 points, six rebounds and three assists. Another former Wolfpack star, center Chasity Melvin, had 11 points and four rebounds in a losing cause for the Rockers.
Including the seven straight victories it posted to close out the regular season, the Sting has now won a franchise eight consecutive games.
Game two of the series will be played Saturday in Cleveland, where the Rockers were 14-2 during the regular season.
