After firing a spectacular 64 to pull into a first place tie on Saturday, NC State golfer Chris Mundorf came up just short in his bid to capture the prestigious Sunnehanna Amateur Golf Tournament in Johnstown, Pennsylvania over the weekend.
In Sunday's final round, Mundorf, a first team All-ACC pick this year, shot a one-over par 71 to finish three shots behind eventual winner Lucas Glover from Greenville, South Carolina. A final round 68 gave Glover a four-day winning total of nine under par 271.
Mundorf, who just concluded his senior season at NC State, posted a score of 274 to finish three strokes in front of third place finisher John Engler.
The Sunnehanna Amateur, which is recognized as one of the top amateur tournaments in the United States, has produced an impressive list of champions. Among the past winners are current PGA Tour standouts John Cook, Ben Crenshaw, and Scott Verplank along with Senior Tour stars Allen Doyle and Jay Sigel.
