Pyzik, Henrie Lift Tigers Over Wolfpack, 10-2

Raleigh, N.C.-- Clemson catcher Steve Pyzik went 4-4 and Matt Henrie tossed seven shutout innings to lift the 14th-ranked Clemson Tigers to a 10-2 victory over NC State at Doak Field Sunday afternoon.
Henrie picked up the win (5-2), allowing only five hits while striking out four. Wolfpack starter Ryan Combs took the loss (3-4), going one and two-thirds innings, surrendering three hits and two earned runs.
Center fielder Chad Coder put the Tigers (33-18, 14-7 ACC) on the board in the top of the second inning with a long one-out double to center to score shortstop Khalil Greene. Pyzik made the score 2-0 with another shot to center, scoring Coder.
Clemson exteded its lead in the third inning when left fielder Casey Stone scored on Wolfpack third baseman Sean Walsh's fielding error to put the Tigers up 3-0 against NC State reliever Mike Sollie.
The onslaught continued in the top of the fifth when third baseman Jeff Baker hammered his team-leading 19th homer of the season over the right field wall to push the Clemson advantage to five. Pyzik tacked on an additional run with an RBI single to right to score designated hitter Jarrod Schmidt.
Stone pushed the score to 7-0 in favor of Clemson when he beat out a double play attempt by the Wolfpack, scoring Pyzik from third.
NC State (26-27, 9-15 ACC) finally dented the scoreboard in the bottom of the eighth when left fielder Brian Wright singled to right off Tiger reliever Ryan Childs, scoring shortstop Adam Miller.
Clemson closed out its scoring with three more runs in the top of the ninth on an RBI-double by Ryan Klosterman and a two-run triple by second baseman Ryan Riley off Wolfpack reliever Kyle Stephenson.
Wolfpack first baseman David Hicks tallied an RBI groundout in the bottom of the ninth for the final margin.
Miller led the Wolfpack at the plate, going 3-3 on the afternoon with a run scored. Right fielder Jamey Shearin also contributed to the cause with two hits.
NC State will face Virginia Commonwealth on Saturday, May 12th at 7:00 at Doak Field.
