Colorado Springs, CO * Carisse Moody, a rising junior at NC State, was one of 11 women's basketball players named to the USA Basketball National Team on Monday. Thirty-three of the top women's collegiate players participated in the four-day trial workouts. The Rocky Mount, N.C. native averaged 14.9 points and 7.1 rebounds last season for the Wolfpack and earned All-ACC second team honors and was selected to the ACC All-Tournament first team. She was also tabbed as an honorable mention All-American by the Associated Press. "This is a great opportunity," commented Moody. "To represent your college is one thing, but to be representing the whole country, that's a whole other thing. And hopefully we'll go over there and represent the United States well."
The USA National Team will compete in the 2001 World University Games to be held Aug. 22 * Sept. 1 in Beijing, China. The World University Games women's basketball competition will feature squads from 20 countries. The United States will face Canada, Ireland, Japan and South Africa in the preliminary round.
"I'm very excited and proud to have another player make a USA Basketball Team," commented NC State coach Kay Yow. "This says a lot about the caliber of Carisse's play and how hard she has worked on her game. I am very excited for her and our program. This will be a great experience for her."
Yow served as head coach of the USA National Team that competed in the 1982 World University Games. That squad earned a silver medal with a 4-1 record.
