There will be no reprieve for the NC State baseball team (25-24) tonight. The banged up Wolfpack, which has dropped six of its last eight games, will travel east to Greenville for a 7 p.m. meeting with red-hot East Carolina.
With a team batting average of .328, the Pirates (41-10) are one of the most explosive squads in the nation. ECU, which has won 13 of its last 15 games, is currently ranked No. 10 in this week's Baseball America Poll.
One of ECU's 41 wins came in extra innings over the Wolfpack last week in Raleigh, 6-4.
Lately, it's been a challenge for Wolfpack head coach Elliott Avent to find nine healthy bodies to put on the field. Injuries to Joe Gaetti (broken wrist), Matt Butler (broken jaw) and Mike Prochaska (shoulder) have severely limited Avent's options. Another key player, closer Josh Miller, has been trying to pitch with a torn ACL in his right knee.
Things got so desperate in last week's game against the Pirates that Gaetti was forced to hit after being inserted as a defensive replacement.
The Pack leads the all-time series with East Carolina 51-31.
