NC State head coach Elliott Avent:
On Gaetti: "Well, he's got that kind of power. When we recruited him he
had big-time power. What you've got to remember is he's a freshman
playing in one of the best leagues in the country and with good
pitchers. He stepped up late and he's coming off a broken hand. He was
out (12 games)with a broken hand and has just recently started back
playing."
"We've gone through a lot this year. We've had injuries that I haven't talked about all year because I don't believe in giving you an excuse or giving yourself a crutch because you can't play this game with a crutch. But these guys have gone through injury after injury and it's not so much what it did physically to the players on the field, but mentally it takes its toll as well. The last six or seven weeks they've played through it. They decided no matter what they were just going to play and I'm just awfully proud of what they've done here in Charlotte."
"We've got a good ball club. We've had a good ball club all year, just riddled with injuries. The thing that makes it tough is we've played six games now since Tuesday and that's awfully tough. The kids are awfully tired, they're banged up out there. But they play with a lot of emotion and a lot of heart and I'm awfully proud of them."
Florida State head coach Mike Martin:
"That is just a game that North Carolina State deserved to win. They
just outplayed us. They just really got it done. I take my hat off to
them. That is a real credit to Elliott and his staff. They just did a
really outstanding job. They threw pitches when they had to. They
didn't make any errors. Like I said, my hat is really off to them."
Did your team press after falling behind by four runs early "I don't think we pressed. We had a couple of chances and they got us out. They got us out on a force with the bases loaded situation. That was a big chance for us. Another opportunity went by the boards when we ran into a tag at home plate. They just persevered."
