NC State Announces Award Winners at All-Sports Banquet

Raleigh, NC - NC State held its annual All-Sports Banquet Monday night at the McKimmon Center on the NC State campus to honor all varsity athletes. The H.C. Kennett Award is presented annually to the male and female athlete at NC State that demonstrate the finest attributes of good sportsmanship and team play as well as possessing good character and leadership abilities. This is NC State's highest athletic award. Zach Breitenbach (wrestling) and Tynesha Lewis (women's basketball) were honored as this year's recipients of this prestigious award.
Breitenbach is a 4.0 student in computer science and was selected an Academic All-American as a junior and senior by the USWCA (United Wrestling Coaches Association) He was the 2001 ACC champion at 197 pounds and has been ranked as high as eighth in the country. Breitenbach is the fourth wrestler to earn the presitgious H.C. Kennett Award.
A chemistry major, Lewis earned All-ACC accolades all four years at NC State. She posted the only two triple-doubles in school history this year and was selected to the All-East Region team twice in her career. The 5-10 point guard was selected by the Houston Comets in the WNBA draft on April 20. This is the fifth straight year a women's basketball player has received the H.C. Kennett Award.
Meredith Price (volleyball) is the first recipient of the Kay Yow Award. The award was founded last year by the Wolfpack Club to honor Coach Yow during her 25th anniversary celebration for her contributions to the university. This award is given to a female athlete that possesses the attributes of community service, teamwork, as well as athletic and academic accomplishments. Price is a 4.0 biochemistry major and a three-time member of the ACC Academic Honor Roll. She earned all-tournament honors twice during the 2000 season.
The Wolfpack Gymnastics squad was presented the Todd Dunston Community Service Team Award for their community work throughout the season. Athletes named the Top Six for Service were Charece Williams (volleyball), Kristen Nicholls (tennis), Laura Jazab (gymnastics), Lauren Palefsky (gymnastics), James Wood (cheer-Mr. Wuf) and Diana Henderson (track). Also honored at the banquet were the most valuable players from each team and the person with the highest GPA from each squad. Below is a list of those honorees.
