Women's Tennis Defeats East Carolina

RALEIGH, N.C.-- The NC State women's tennis team defeated East Carolina, 4-3 this afternoon in a match played at the NC State Tennis Complex. NC State improves to 8-10 on the season, while East Carolina falls to 11-8.
The Wolfpack opened the match by sweeping the doubles matches and claiming the doubles point. The Pack's No. 2 tandemof junior Katrina Gildemeister and sophomore Myrna Bawono opened by defeating ECU's Lyndall Jordan and Paulina Sierpinski, 8-2. At No. 1 doubles, NC State sophomore Loni Worsley teammed with freshman Jackie Leskovar to defeat East Carolina's Emily Kohl and Meredith Spears, 8-2 while the Pack duo of freshman Jennifer Jassawalla and freshman Kristin Lam followed with an 8-6 win over Hrushida Kamthe and Andrea Terrill of ECU at No. 3.
In singles action, NC State's Jasswalla clinched the win for the Wolfpack with a 6-0, 6-4 win over East Carolina's Spears at the No. 5 spot. NC State also picked up wins at the No. 3 and No. 6 positions, respectively. At No. 3, Nicholls defeated Johnson of East Carolina, 6-1, 6-2, while Bawono picked up the win at No. 6, 6-1, 6-0 over the Pirates Terrill.
The NC State women's tennis squad will return to action on Wednesday, April 11th when they host No. 13 North Carolina at the NC State Tennis Complex for the last home match of the season. Match time is set for 2:00 p.m. NC State is currently 1-4 in the ACC and North Carolina is 11-5 overall, 2-2 in the ACC.
