Raleigh, N.C. -- The NC State men’s tennis team romped over Maryland 7-0 Saturday afternoon at the Wolfpack Tennis Center. The win moves the squad to 6-15 for the year and 1-4 in ACC play, while Maryland falls to 4-10 in 2001, with a conference mark of 0-7.
The Wolfpack’s hot play began in doubles where 2000 All-ACC honoree Eric Jackson teamed with Reinaldo Valor to defeat Chris Chiu and Jonathan Neeter 8-3 at #1. Michael Carducci, making his first collegiate doubles appearance, paired with fellow freshman John Davis to take the #2 match 8-3 over Jonathan Murchison and Luan Nguyen. Ryan Boward and Brad Kilgore continued the trend at #3 with a 8-6 triumph over Larry Chou and Dan Kenshalo.
It would be more of the same in singles as the Wolfpack took all six matches in straight sets. Jackson (6-2, 6-3) and Carducci (6-1, 6-0) would take the #1 and #2 matches easily, while Valor (6-4, 6-4) and Kilgore (6-3, 6-2) dominated the middle third of the lineup. Boward (6-3, 6-2) and Bryce McGrory (6-1, 6-2) closed out the sweep for NC State at #5 and #6.
The Wolfpack will host Virginia tomorrow at the Wolfpack Tennis Center at 1:00 p.m.
