Baseball Set to Host UNCG
4/6/2001 12:00:00 AM | Baseball
The week started with a doubleheader loss to UNC-Chapel Hill on Monday. Tuesday brought a visit from UNC-Wilmington, a game the Pack won 4-3. Then on Wednesday, State toppled Charlotte (formerly UNC-Charlotte), 6-2.
Why mess with a good thing? This evening, the Wolfpack (16-15) finishes up a seven game homestand against-what else-another UNC. This time, UNC-Greensboro (17-13) will provide the opposition at Doak Field.
On the mound for NC State tonight will be sophomore Daniel Caldwell (3-3, 5.21 ERA), who will be making his eighth start of the year.
The Wolfpack's hottest hitter lately has been rightfielder Jamie Shearin (.286), whose batting average has shot up more than 80 points over the last two weeks. Shearin, a junior, has hit safely in his last 10 games. In Wednesday's win over Charlotte, he went 3-for-4 with a homer and a double.
On Saturday, the Pack will play a pair of games in the Triad as a 1:00 p.m. game at High Point will be followed by a 7:00 p.m. rematch with UNC-G.
