Track' Dugan Wins 3,000m Steeplechase at Penn Relays

Philadelphia, Pa. -- The NC State track and field team sent some of its premier runners up to Philadelphia this past weekend to compete in the prestigious Penn Relays, one of this year's biggest track meets.
Chris Dugan captured first place in the 3,000m steeplechase with a NCAA Automatic qualifying time of 8:40.83. This is only the second time this season Dugan has ran the steeplechase, as last week he won the event at the Outdoor ACC Championships. Also for the men's team, David Christan posted a season-best time of 14:35.95 to finish 20th in the 5,000 meters, and Ryan Furlough took 22nd in the hammer throw with a mark of 169'09".
The women's team also had a strong showing, notching two NCAA Provisional marks. Katie Sabino finished second in the 3,000m steeplechase with a provisional time of 10:20.01, just 00.01 away from an NCAA Automatic qualifying time. Diana Henderson notched a provisional mark in the 10,000 meters, by placing fifth with a time of 34:58.39. Also in that race, Josianne Lauber placed ninth with a time of 36:09.77.
Running in the 3,000 meters, Janelle Vadnais placed 21st (10:04.81) while Sara Graybill was close behind finishing 24th (10:12.95). Amy Beykirch finished 23rd in the 5,000 meters with a time of 17:06.59. In the jumps, Katie Bolac took fifth in the pole vault with a mark of 11'05.75", and Desiree Mittman was 24th in the triple jump with a leap of 34'08.25".
NC State will have this weekend off, then travel to UNC-Chapel Hill to compete in the UNC Twilight on May 12.
