NC State Downs Duke, 9-5

DURHAM, N.C. - Justin Riley led off the top of the 10th inning with a home run, sparking a four-run outburst as NC State defeated Duke 9-5 in Atlantic Coast Conference baseball action at Duke's Jack Coombs Field.
The win lifted NC State to 25-22 overall and 8-11 in the ACC. Duke fell to 20-27 overall and 7-11 in the conference. Josh Miller (2-3) worked 2 2/3 scoreless innings to get the win. He allowed three hits, walked none and struck out one. Justin Delucchio (2-3) got the loss for the Blue Devils after allowing four runs, three of them unearned, on three hits in 1 2/3 innings. He walked one and struck out one.
The Wolfpack took the lead in the top of the second, doing all the damage after two were out. Colt Morton singled to center field and David Hicks laced an opposite-field double down the left-field line, putting runners at second and third. Adam Miller followed with a two-run single up the middle to give the Pack a 2-0 lead.
Duke tied thegame in the bottom of the third. Scott Grossi led off with a single to left-center and Kevin Kelly singled to center. Wolfpack starter Derek McKee retired J.D. Alleva and Wes Goodner on pop-ups, but Troy Caradonna hit a line drive to the wall in center field for a two-run double that tied the score at 2-2.
Jeremy Dutton ripped a one-out triple to center field in the top of the fifth and scored on Brian Wright's sacrifice fly to left to make it 3-2. Wright drew a one-out walk and Sean Walsh drove him home with a double to left-center on a hit-to give NC State a 4-2 lead.
Kelly led off the bottom of the seventh with a double to center field and scored on Wes Goodner's two-run homer to left, tying the score at 4-4. The tie didn't last long. Morton greeted Duke reliever Greg Burke with a double to right-center and scored on Hicks's single to right. Hicks was out attempting to stretch the hit into a double.
Duke retied the game in the bottom of the eighth. Doug Bechtold led off with a double and Loftin bunted him to third. Scott Grossi's sacrifice fly drove in the run to tie the score at 5-5.
The Wolfpack broke the tie and then some in the top of the 10th when Riley led off with a long homer to left field, his seventh of the season. Morton singled, and Hicks hit into a force play. Miller was safe on an error and Dutton drew a two-out walk to load the bases. Wright singled up the middle to drive in a pair, and Dutton scored on a passed ball to make it 9-5.
