The Deacs went up 1-0 after doubles by taking two of three matches for the doubles point. Wake's No. 1 tandem of junior Janet Bergman and sophomore Bea Bielik ranked eighth nationally, won 9-7 over the Wolfpack's Jackie Leskovar and Loni Worsley. Wake also picked up a win at No. 2 doubles, where junior Maren Haus and freshman Aimee Smith won 8-6 over Myrna Bawano and Katrina Gildemeister.
Although the Deacs won the doubles point, the match score was tied 1-1 going into singles, as WFU defaulted at the No. 6 spot. Wake went up 2-1 when NC State defaulted shortly into the No. 2 singles match. At No. 1 singles, Wake's Bielik, ranked sixth nationally, posted a shutout, blanking Gildemeister 6-0, 6-0 to give the Deacs a 3-1 advantage. Haus, ranked 76th, then clinched the victory for Wake Forest, winning 6-0, 7-6(3) at No. 3 singles over the Pack's Kristen Nicholls. Jackie Houston and Elizabeth Proctor (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) iced the victory for the Deacs, as Houston won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4 over Jennifer Jassawalla, and Proctor withstood a comeback from Worsley to win 6-1, 7-6(4) at No. 5 singles.
NC State's Jennifer Jassawalla and Kristen Lam captured the #3 doubles match over Jackie Houston and Elizabeth Proctor 8-5.
