CHICAGO - The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA)
has named NC State's Brian Wright its National Hitter of the Week for the
week ending March 11. James Madison sophomore righthander Chris Cochran
and New Orleans junior lefthander Tom Lipari were named National Pitchers
of the Week. The NCBWA Board reviews candidates from each Division I
Conference each week and names winners each Tuesday throughout the
season.
Wright tied a school record with six hits in a game on March 11 at Georgia Tech. He was 6-for-6 in the game with two home runs, seven RBIs and five runs scored. For the week, Wright hit .571 (12-for-21) with a 1.048 slugging percentage and an on-base percentage of .640. Wright finished the week with nine runs scored, two doubles, a triple and two walks in helping the Wolfpack to two wins over No. 1-ranked Georgia Tech and two wins over Ball State. A first-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference outfielder a year ago, Wright was also named Player of the Week by the ACC.
