Long has served in both capacities since August 1997, where he was also a member of the NCAA Women's Soccer Committe as the chair of the South Region.
Since 1998, he has also been the Director of Travel for the Lynchburg United Soccer Club, where he served as an evaluator and education reference for over thirty coaches. Long has also served as the Under-19 Virginia state head coach in the Olympic Development Program and was a member of the Region I staff.
From 1992-1999, Long spent time at many different schools in the Arlington County Public School system. After his 1992 graduation from George Mason with a B.S. in health education, Long taught three years at Kenmore Middle School before moving to Yorktown High School. He has also coached at Marshall, Robert E. Lee and Oakton High School in the Fairfax County Public School system.
"He is really knowledgeable about the game," said Kerrigan. "He has a real enthusiasm for the game of soccer and should be a great asset to our program."
Long is married to the former Shelly Hawkins, and they have two daughters, Austyn (4) and Alyssa (2).
