Gymnastics Wraps Up Action at Governor's Cup

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (Feb. 3, 2001) -- The No. 21 NC State women's gymnastics team posted a score of 192.700 and finished fourth at the annual Governor's Cup, held Saturday afternoon at the University of North Carolina. The host Tar Heels finished first with a score of 194.450, followed by Towson in second (194.225), and Maryland in third (194.100).
Junior Kelli Brown took first place in the all-around with a score of 39.375, a mark that ranks fifth in the NC State record books. She recorded a first place finish on bars with a 9.9, and also tied for first on vault with a score of 9.8. Brown was also NC State's top finisher on floor with a 9.85 to finish third overall.
Sophomore Stephanie Southard also had a strong showing for the Pack. She brought home a fourth place finish on the vault with a score of 9.65, and also took sixth on bars with a career-best 9.8.
Other top-10 finishes for NC State were; senior Kara Charles on bars (fourth place - 9.825), senior Monica Berry on bars (ninth place - 9.75) and also on beam (ninth place - 9.85); and freshman Alison Bundy on vault (eighth place - 9.575).
NC State will return to action this Friday night, when the Wolfpack host the Hearts Invitational starting at 7:00 p.m. Also competing with NC State will be Iowa, Kent State, and William & Mary .
