Women's Basketball Set to Square Off Against Virginia

The Wolfpack: N C State is coming off one of its best games of the season with a 85-66 win over Florida State on Monday night. It was the Wo l f p a c k 's highest offensive output of the season. The win snapped a four-game losing streak for State.
The Wolfpack Women defense is ranked eighth in the nation in scoring defense (57.0), but it has given up an aver-age of 65.6 points in the last 10 games, seven of which are losses. NC State is led by the inside-outside combination of Carisse Moody (14.4 ppg, 6.6 rpg) and Tynesha Lewis (13.5 ppg, 5.3 rpg). In the Pack's last outing, Moody scored a ca-reer high 29 points and Lewis recorded the school's first-ever triple double.
The Opponent: Virginia is led by A C C Player of the Year candidate Schuye LaRue. The sophomore forward is av-eraging a double-double with 17.5 points and 10.8 rebounds per outing. The Cavaliers have lost two of its last three contests with the win coming in a double overtime game with Wake Forest.
Tonight's Matchup: Both teams need a win in league play as both are 1-3 in its last four ACC games. Both teams are coming off a win and hoping to start a winning streak in the second half of the ACC schedule. Vi rginia needs a win to stay above .500 in ACC play and battle for third place in the standings. The Wolfpack are trying to climb back to .500 after some disappointing losses andget back in the top half of the ACC.

The Cavaliers hold a 28-23 lead against the Wolfpack. However, the series is tied at 12 games apiece in games played in Reynolds Coliseum. NC S t a t e 's last win against the Wahoos came on Feb. 12, 1998 with a 70-63 victory in Raleigh. Last Meeting: Virginia won the previous matchup this season with NC State, 77-64 at Charlottesville. Schuye LaRue led the Cavaliers with 25 points and 10 boards. Amy Simpson came off the bench to lead the Wolfpack with 18 points. Vi rginia outshot NC State 55.1% to 39.3% and forced 21 Wolfpack turnovers.
The Coaches: Head Coach Kay Yo w, in her 26th season on the Wolfpack bench, recently reached the 600th career win milestone. She has a 544-231 record at NC State and a 601-250 overall collegiate coaching mark. One of the most successful coaches in the country, she currently ranks fifth in career wins.
Debbie Ryan owns a 540-191 mark in her 24th season on the Vi rginia sideline.
Last Time Out: NC State downed Florida State 85-66 on Monday night in Reynolds Coliseum. Tynesha Lewis posted the first triple-double in school history with 10 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists. Carisse Moody and Ivy Gard-ner each posted career highs with 29 and 21 points respectively.
Virginia came from behind to edge Wake Forest 76-73 in double overtime on Sunday in Charlottesville. Marcie Dickson led the Cavaliers with 21 points and Schuye LaRue chipped in 16 points and nine rebounds.
