The North Carolina Tennis Association is privileged to announce the addition of Francie Barragan to the staff as she assumes the role of Community Development Trainer vacated by Alice Buckner. Barragan comes to us with an impressive resume and strong roots in North Carolina tennis traditions. A highly ranked junior player from Fayetteville, Barragan helped her Terry Sanford High School team to win 3 NCHSAA 4-A state championships. She went on to play varsity tennis at N.C. State on a full athletic scholarship. A complete scholar athlete, Barragan was a top-level player, playing number 1 singles, and a top-level student, making the Dean's List each of her four years. Barragan earned her Bachelor's degree in Business Management with honors in 2000. In December of 2001, she earned her Master's degree, again with honors, in Sports
As a graduate student, Barragan was an assistant coach for the NCSU Wolfpack Tennis team, as well as an Assistant Pro at Highland Country Club in Fayetteville. She has worked with the Special Olympics as a volunteer tennis instructor and also in their World Games Logistics department. Her several internships in the N.C. State Athletic Department and her most recent as a Community Relations intern for the National Basketball Development League's Fayetteville Patriots, have aptly prepared her for her transition into the NCTA.
As the Community Development Trainer, Barragan will work with all aspects of N.C.'s USA School Tennis program. She will also train local volunteers and professionals to be Development Coaches and clinicians and work with special events in N.C. to promote and develop tennis.
Kelly Gaines, Executive Director of the North Carolina Tennis Association says, "We are very pleased to have Francie on our staff. Having grown up and played in North Carolina, Francie brings not only a wealth of knowledge about our state and the people who serve tennis, but a passion for tennis in North Carolina."
Francie will begin work with the NCTA on January 7, 2002.
