NC State's women's basketball team, ranked #10 in both national polls, puts its 4-0 mark on the line tonight against nationall-ranked Old Dominion. This is the second nationally-ranked opponent in as many weeks for the Wolfpack. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. tonight in Reynolds Coliseum.
Old Dominion enters tonight's contest with a 2-1 mark and ranked #17/#16 respectively in the Associated Press and USA Today/ESPN Coaches polls. The Monarchs return all five starters from last year's club that posted a 21-9 record and advanced to the NCAA Tournament after winning another CAA title. In addition to returning last year's starting five, Coach Wendy Larry also welcomes back All-America center Lucienne Berthieu who missed the 2000-01 season due to a knee injury.
This has become one of NC State's best non-conference rivalries. NC State holds a narrow 17-13 advantage in the all-time series against these two traditional NCAA-caliber teams. The last time these two teams met, both were nationally ranked, and the Monarchs escaped with a 75-72 win in Reynolds Coliseum over the Wolfpack on Nov. 24, 1998. Prior to that loss, NC State had won four straight over ODU. Old Dominion has won four of the 10 matchups in Raleigh.
