Raleigh, N.C.--The 10th-ranked NC State Wolfpack women's basketball team announced its Class of 2007 today with the signing of Billie McDowell of Lumberton, N.C. and Jennifer Filipowski of Raleigh, N.C.
McDowell , a 5-9 guard, averaged over 20 points a game in both her sophomore and junior seasons at Lumberton High School. McDowell also averaged 12.3 rebounds per game last season to go with a 40 percent shooting clip from behind the three-point arc.
McDowell garnered co-North Carolina Player of the Year honors in 2001 as well as being named the Piedmont Region Player of the Year and the Southeastern 4A Conference Player of the Year. McDowell also helped lead Lumberton to a 29-1 record on its way the the 4A State title last season.
Filipowski, a 6-2 guard at Wake-Forest Rolesville, is a McDonald's All-American nominee and was tabbed a preseason honorable mention All-American by Street & Smith. Filipowski earned All-Tri 7 honors as a sophomore and junior and was the runner-up for player of the year in the conference as a junior. Filipowski was also a member of the under-17 N.C. national championship team.
The Raleigh native averaged 17.1 points per game in 2000-01, to go with 7.0 rebounds/game and 5.4 steals.
"Billie and Jennifer will be great additions to our program," said NC State head coach Kay Yow. "They have great shooting ability and both possess a tremendous ability to score. They are great athletes who are outstanding students with the character to be winners on and off the court."
