Women's Tennis Competes in Campbell Tournament

Buies Creek, N.C. -- Members of the women's tennis team participated in the James R. Nisbet Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament in Buies Creek this weekend.
Five Wolfpackers won matches for the team, which competed against schools from the A-Sun, Big South, C-USA, and Southern Conferences.
Due to the rain on Saturday, day two competition was cancelled.
Flight B participant Myrna Bawono of NC State would have competed in the semi-finals had play continued. En route to the match, she defeated both opponents in straight sets. Bawono crushed George Washington's Molly Hoeffner (6-0, 6-0) and Charlotte's Courtney Clifford (6-1, 6-0). Freshman Taylor Parker also tabbed a win in the first round over Campbell's Colen Gore (6-4, 4-6, 6-2) before falling to Natash Lucki of Winthrop.
Jennifer Jassawalla, Kristen Nicholls and Jackie Leskovar competed in Flight A singles. Jassawalla was downed by Winthrop's Renata Barreto (6-3, 6-2) in the first round. In the consolation bracket, she defeated Charlotte's Alice Hansen (6-2, 6-2).
Senior Kristen Nicholls faced Carmen Linder of Campbell. Putting up a hard fight, Nicholls fell (7-5, 2-6, 7-6). Nicholls also marked a win in the consolation bracket, defeating Courtney McInnis of George Washington (6-1, 6-3).
The women's tennis team will be in action again in the Rolex Qualifier in Winston- Salem October 25-27.
